Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Thundery showers associated with a broad trough of low pressure are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. Locally, the thundery showers around noon brought more than 10 millimetres of rainfall to many places in the New Territories, and around 20 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over Sha Tin and Tai Po. Besides, a southwesterly airstream is bringing hot weather to the coastal areas.

At noon, Tropical Storm Co-May was centred about 70 kilometres east-southeast of Nanjing. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of Jiangsu and gradually weaken.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly cloudy and hot. Occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times in the afternoon. Moderate southwesterly winds, occasionally fresh offshore.


Outlook : Still a few showers tomorrow. The weather will be unsettled during the weekend to early next week. Showers will be heavier at times with squally thunderstorms.

General Situation:

A broad trough of low pressure will continue to bring showers and thunderstorms to the coast of southern China tomorrow. Meanwhile, a hot southwesterly airstream will also affect the region. With the southwesterly airstream becoming active and under the influence of the upper-air disturbances, there will be heavy showers and squally thunderstorms over the coast of Guangdong during the weekend to early next week. An anticyclone aloft is expected to cover the coast of southern China in the middle and latter parts of next week. Showers will ease off gradually over the region. It will be very hot during the day. Besides, Tropical Cyclone Co-May will move across eastern China and gradually weaken today and tomorrow.
